Jon Charles Stauffacher

Jon Charles Stauffacher, 64, a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on July 3, 2025, in Gillette, Wyoming, after a brief but heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. 

Born on August 15, 1960, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Robert H. and Shirley (Whitman) Stauffacher, Jon embodied warmth and dedication throughout his life, which started in the small town of Basin, where he graduated from Basin High School in 1978.

Jon’s journey in life was marked by hard work and determination. He began working for the City of Buffalo, Wyoming, then moved to start his career in the mining industry with Carter Mining in Gillette. He began as a truck driver, evolving into roles of increasing responsibility until he reached the position of team lead for Peabody. Jon dedicated an impressive 40 years working at Rawhide and Caballo Mines. His commitment to his work was palpable, and he took great pride in serving his community and supporting his family through his profession.

On July 18, 1981, in Buffalo, he married the love of his life, Christina L. Schroder. Their partnership was a testament to love and mutual support, forming a strong foundation that brightened the lives of all who knew them. Together, they raised three wonderful daughters, Jessica, Jillian and Jordan, each making their own mark in this world. Jon reveled in being a father and especially cherished his role as “Papa” to his four beloved grandchildren, Jack, Lexi, Claire and Lincoln. Jon never missed an opportunity to attend his girls’ (and, more recently, his grandchildren’s) activities, always the proud supporter in the crowd, quietly beaming with joy.

A true patriot, Jon had a deep love for his country, which was evident in the values he instilled in his family. He also had a zest for life beyond his professional commitments. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a die-hard Broncos supporter. In quieter moments, he enjoyed gardening and landscaping, where he found peace among the fruits of his labor. 

Jon was an avid dog lover and could often be found doting on his golden retrievers, Journee and Archie. Sports held a special place in his heart; whether coaching basketball or just enjoying the games, Jon loved sharing those moments with others. His passion for music was infectious, often leading him and his family to attend concerts, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

He quietly fought with unwavering courage and a relentless spirit, always pushing himself to the limits in the hope of being with his family just a little longer. His devotion to his loved ones was evident in every moment of his battle, a fight not just for time, but for more memories, more laughter and more time to show how deeply he cared. Jon’s strength, love and the sacrifices he made for his family will live on in their hearts forever.

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Shirley Stauffacher, and brother Dennis Stauffacher. Their guidance continued to inspire him even in their absence. Together, they are part of the foundation that shaped the man he became – a legacy of love, strength and unwavering commitment.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 44 years, Christina Stauffacher; daughters Jessica Stauffacher, Jillian Stauffacher and Jordan (Sam) Kennedy; adored grandchildren Jack, Lexi, Claire and Lincoln; and brother Robert H. (Bobby) Stauffacher Jr., who holds dear the countless memories they shared.

In his final moments, Jon was peacefully surrounded by his loving family and devoted dogs, a fitting farewell for a man who valued family above all else. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly, leaving an indelible mark that will never fade.

A celebration of life for Jon will be Friday, July 11, at 1 p.m. at Gillette Memorial Chapel with Donnie Colby as celebrant. Burial of the urn will follow at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery in Gillette.
