Homecoming week saw the Lady Huskies face off against Dubois in a conference matchup on Friday. The games were close, but Burlington defeated Dubois in three games 25-17, 25-22 and 25-22.
“Our girls worked really hard to maintain their consistency this game and did a pretty good job. It is always great to see them keep their heads and play intensely after a week full of distraction from the homecoming festivities,” said Coach Erin Bassett. “Selena Call led our attack numbers with seven kills and chipped in one ace from the service line. Breanne Walker had three kills and five aces. Paxton Philpott had six kills, Naomi McNiven had five, Dalley Bassett had three kills and two aces and Sarah McNiven pitched in with three kills and two aces.”
Saturday, the Lady Huskies traveled to play Wyoming Indian. “We are not sure what to attribute it to, but it was just not our day from the beginning. We won the first set on auto-pilot, but just couldn’t seem to find a groove from there. I don’t think it was lack of effort on any of their parts, it just wasn’t our day,” said Bassett. Burlington lost in four games 25-9, 21-25, 24-26, 18-25. “If you have to have a bad day, it is better to have it when it isn’t a conference game at least,” said Bassett. “We are just going to leave that game where it was and go back to practice to prepare for the next.”
Bassett is pleased with how the season is progressing. “Our whole team is working really hard in practice and growing so much every week. It is fun to see their progress. It makes playing time decisions tough when you have girls competing so closely, but it is a great problem to have. They are constantly pushing each other to be better and it gives us a good tool box to work with come game time,” said Bassett.
The Lady Huskies have another full week ahead. The freshmen played in Cowley on Tuesday and the varsity will host Ft. Washakie at home on Thursday at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday will see both JV and varsity in Thermopolis for the Bobcat Invite.
