The Lady Huskies have been in the gym getting ready for the 2024-25 basketball season. They ended last season with a second place at the Class 1A West Regional, third place at the state tournament, a 24-7 overall record and went 10-0 in their conference.

“I’m very excited for this season,” said Coach Cheryl Haslam. “The girls did well last year at state and I look forward to what they can do this year. Their attitudes have been great during the first few weeks of practice and they are really working hard.”

Burlington lost two seniors last year but returns the rest of its varsity team. “We only have 12 girls out this year and we only got one freshman (Madison Aagard) to come out, so that’s where our numbers dropped a bit. But even though we don’t have as many girls, they all want to be there and work hard every day.”

Breanne Walker, Hailee Winterholler, Paxton Philpott, Naomi McNiven, Dalley Bassett, Eve McNulty, Sarah McNiven and Adison Haslam are all returning varsity players. Bassett and N. McNiven received all-conference honors, while Walker received all-conference and all-state honors last season.

“I really want the girls to focus on playing as a team and everyone contributing,” said Haslam. “Once they figure out their role and take it on, great things will happen for us as a team. As soon as they all see that they can be a threat, they will be hard to defend and they will be able to do great things.

“We’ve got several girls that are taking on the role of shooters, but we’ve also got some that can play under the basket for us. After seeing the girls in practice for the last two weeks, I can’t wait to see what they can achieve throughout the season.”

Cheyanne Jordan has joined Haslam and Rebecca Walker on the Lady Huskies’ coaching staff.

The Lady Huskies will travel to Saratoga and Encampment for the Carbon County Classic on Friday and Saturday and will face Casper Christian, Encampment, Saratoga and Fort Washakie.
