Lady Huskies fall to Meeteetse, Riverside

The Burlington Lady Huskies hit a snag in Meeteetse Thursday night, losing in four games by scores of 16-25, 14-25, 25-16, 23-25.
“These girls like to keep us on our toes!” said Coach Erin Bassett. “About the time I get comfortable with our progress, they throw me a curve ball, like our game in Meeteetse.
“It was not our night. Meeteetse played really well and caught us in a slump that we could not dig our way out of.”
Friday was a completely different story however, when the Lady Huskies took on Riverside at home. “Luckily after that slump, they seemed to up their game and compete at a new level,” said Bassett. That turnaround could have come from the quick five points the Lady Huskies put up on the board from an ace from senior Selena Call and some excellent net play from freshman Sarah McNiven with a tip, two blocks and a kill which energized the Lady Huskies, and the student section.
Riverside, being the talented team that they are, fought back and the games continued to be a back and forth battle with the Lady Huskies falling in five games (25-23, 18-25, 20-25, 25-21, 11-15). “It was a close match and our girls stuck it out. We did not have a perfect game, but we made some real progress,” said Bassett. “We are looking forward to a full week of practice to get ready for the postseason.”
The Lady Huskies will play their two final conference games with Ten Sleep at home on Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday in Dubois at 4 and 5 p.m.
