The Burlington Lady Huskies have a young team this year, but Coach Cheryl Haslam is excited about the upcoming season.
“We have 15 girls out and two managers and only five of those 15 are seniors and juniors,” said Haslam. “We have one returning starter, Jessie Michaels, but several of the girls returning played varsity for me last year.
“The girls work well together and have great attitudes about the season. They work harder in practice than I’ve had a team work for quite a few seasons. This is really encouraging and makes me that much more excited to see where the season takes us.”
Haslam is joined again by assistant coach Rebecca Walker and new freshmen coach Rian McIntosh.
“Our goal for the season is to make it a positive experience for each athlete and for them to have as much fun as possible,” said Haslam. “Obviously, that includes being as competitive as possible and winning too! This group of girls is really scrappy and they will go for it, no matter the situation.”
The Lady Huskies will join teams from across the state this weekend in Encampment and Saratoga for the Carbon County Classic tournament on Friday and Saturday.
