It was a quiet week for the Lady Huskies with just one played varsity game on the schedule. Meeteetse, which no longer has a team, forfeited a conference win to the Lady Huskies on Thursday and on Saturday, Burlington traveled to St. Stephens.

“It was quite the game,” Coach Cheryl Haslam said of the 73-45 win. “You can always expect it to be rough and a little bit crazy when you play St. Stephens on their home court.”

The Lady Huskies started strong and went into the half leading 37-14. “We were able to push the ball quite a bit in the first half. It was a good opportunity for the girls to work on their transition game and finishing at the rim,” Haslam said.

During the second half, the Huskies continued to have a good scoring game, but St. Stephens stuck right with them. “One of their girls kind of took over and couldn’t miss,” said Haslam. “She ended up with 22 of their 45 points. I was proud of the girls for hanging in there. Emotions were high, from the players and coaches. It was a rough game and the girls had to dig deep mentally and physically to make it through the last quarter. It was one of those games that we are just ready to get it over with by the time the buzzer rang at the end. You take the win and move on. Thankfully no one got hurt during the game.”

Paxton Philpott had a monster game, just shy of a triple-double, with 26 points, 10 rebounds, nine steals and four assists. Sarah McNiven had 12 points and seven rebounds and Dalley Bassett earned herself a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

The Lady Huskies will have a busy week. The varsity faced Cody’s JV team on Tuesday. The last C game will be at home on Thursday against Lovell at 5 p.m. and then Burlington travels to Dubois on Saturday with a varsity tip-off at noon.
