Lady Huskies win two on the road
Chalk up two more wins for the Lady Huskies. They picked up a game against Powell JV and traveled to Dubois for another conference matchup.
Ten Sleep not having a girls’ team has created a hole in the Lady Huskies schedule and the game against Powell was able to fill that slot. “These are always good games for us to pick up,” said Coach Cheryl Haslam. “The pace is a lot different than what we play in our conference. We were able to work on our press and push the ball on offense.”
Burlington led the whole game and out scored Powell’s JV in every quarter. “The girls played well and pretty consistently throughout the game. Powell has some girls that are good on the inside, so it was good for us to work on guarding their posts. We will need to be able to do this well in regionals. They are working really well together as a team and making smart decisions. Sarah McNiven and Adison Haslam both had great scoring games for us, but it was spread throughout the girls that played. Naomi McNiven has been really stepping up on defense for us. She is really good at pressuring the ball and forcing turnovers.”
The Lady Huskies won with a final score of 58-32. S. McNiven led with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals and Haslam added in 14 points. N. McNiven had 11 points, 4 steals and 5 assists.
Saturday in Dubois, Burlington started slow and was only up by 4 at the end of the first quarter but hit their stride in the third quarter, out-scoring the Lady Rams 24-0. “We seem to struggle coming out after halftime, so this was great to see them wake up and play their game. Naomi hit a few three pointers for us and they just rolled from there. We knew that Dubois likes to shoot 3’s on teams, so we did a great job pressuring them from the outside and talking on defense to shut them down. Naomi had a great game for us, offensively and defensively and Sarah had another good scoring game on the inside for us,” said Haslam.
The Lady Huskies won with a final score of 56-15. S. McNiven had 18 points and 12 rebounds. N. McNiven had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists. Paxton Philpott grabbed 7 boards and 9 points and Dalley Bassett had 7 boards and 4 points.
In the last week of the regular season, Burlington will have one last home game on Saturday against Riverside for Senior Night. There will be two quarters of a JV game starting at 4 and the Varsity will tip off at 5:30.
