Lady Rebels take a conference win and a loss
The Riverside Lady Rebels put forth a great deal of effort against The Burlington Lady Huskies on Friday, but were unable to pull off a win. Each quarter was competitive, but the second quarter is where the Huskies pushed ahead. There were some attempted and some successful steals on both sides as the teams both came out aggressive. The Lady Huskies eventually prevailed, 60-41.
“I’m hopeful we took the opportunity to identify our weaknesses and that it results in an increased focus addressing those issues over the next couple of weeks,” said Coach Jason Mitchell. “After watching the game video, we didn’t play as poorly as if felt in the moment. Sometimes, the lessons learned in losses can provide the spark that ignites a great late-season run.”
Saturday against the St. Stephens Lady Eagles ended in a conference 60-42 win for the Lady Rebels, who outscored the Lady Eagles in every quarter.
Coach Mitchell had this to say: “I thought Kennedy (Bassett) had the best on-ball defensive game that I’ve seen since I’ve been here. It wasn’t just her effort, either. She took great angles, fought through screens, and communicated extremely well. While we want to continue to improve as we near the end of the season, every conference game is a chance to secure a better seed at regionals.”
“We’re out of conference for the weekend. Greybull is obviously a rivalry game for us and I know our girls are itching to get another opportunity against Shoshoni.”
The Riverside Lady Rebels are up against the Greybull Lady Buffs for the pink game on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 4 and 5:30 p.m. They travel to Shoshoni on Saturday, Feb. 8, to play the Shoshoni Lady Wranglers at 12 and 1:30 p.m.
