Lady Rebels victorious over Lady Eagles
The Lady Rebels have been on the road and doing well in tournament play. On Saturday, January 4, they came out strong against the Lady Eagles at St. Stephens, winning their first conference game of the season 55-32.
“I was really pleased with the way we played against St. Stephens. Obviously, it’s always important to get that first conference win under your belt, but I liked the progress I saw in how we’re playing defensively,” commented Coach Jason Mitchell. “An added benefit of the weekend was getting an opportunity to get some quality early-game minutes for some girls who don’t always get as many varsity minutes.”
Ada Pratt had a huge impact, as St. Stephens had no answer for her size. She ended the game with 12 rebounds, seven of them offensive, to go along with her 10 points. Vinaya VanderPloeg continued to excel on both ends of the floor, registering eighth points (on only six shot attempts).
This week Riverside plays at Kaycee on Friday. “Kaycee has played a very difficult schedule so far and should provide a tough test for us as we head into conference play in a couple of weeks,” said Mitchell.
