Letter to the Editor
Al Simpson was asked what his opinion on abortion was. The wise Senator said, “Abortion is so personal--men should have nothing to say about it.”
I would like to respond to the article that BRR ran 3/8/2025 on Rep. Lawley. She said, it makes me wonder just how “safe” this clinic is, pertaining to Wellspring Health Access. In June 2016, Whole Women’s Health v. Hellerstedt (Texas) attempted to pass laws similar to the ones we just passed. The Supreme Court ruled “there was a virtual absence of any health benefit,” stating that for abortion clinics to meet ambulatory surgical center standards and have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals was unconstitutional.
They again ruled against Louisiana in 2020. Similar to us, they have one abortion clinic in the whole state. So, the Supreme Court seems to think that unnecessary regulations do not make them safer. It seems what the “take away your freedom” caucus and republicans wrote a bill for two times before has been found unconstitutional.
Here is one that was brought forth this year. SF 125 declares abortion is not healthcare. Here is the insidious part: by declaring abortion is not healthcare, it is not protected by the Wyoming Constitution. Scary how they are trying to deceive people with word salads to take our constitutional rights away. This is the second time I have seen this bill. Gov. Gordon gave a good explanation on why he vetoed HB 64, because it had no exceptions for girls and women that were victims of sexual abuse. They overrode it, no compassion, no empathy. Nope, you’re going to have a trans-vaginal ultrasound.
Can you imagine being the parent of an 11-year-old girl who was a victim of rape and is now pregnant? Can you imagine walking her to a clinic where you both are called horrendous names? Then your child, who has been traumatically assaulted, has to get a trans-vaginal ultrasound and be further traumatized. Then to further victimize the victims, they must now put their medical waste in bright red bags to be paraded in front of everyone not knowing the true circumstances of their condition. Cruelty is the point.
Long live the Gulf of Mexico, Canada and especially Ukraine.
Respectfully,
Lynn Meier
