Letter to the Editor: The Left losing it as they feel their control slipping away
Dear editor:
Trump Derangement Syndrome is a real thing, as exhibited by Mr. Laidlaw in last week’s op-ed section. He certainly has the talking points down.
President Trump is hardly the first to surround himself with personnel he trusts. Johnson’s cabinet was full of his yes-men, to include the joint chiefs, which is how he turned the Vietnam War into a quagmire that Nixon finally put an end to. The Clintons completely purged personnel from the Reagan – Bush administrations and filled the openings with their own people, whose qualifications often were only that they were “Friends of Bill.” These purges included non-political positions as well as political, and excised even Democrats who had had jobs in multiple previous administrations. (Remember Travelgate?) Obama was blatant in his divisive speeches that really pushed the victim narrative blaming whitey for all the world’s ills and openly complained that the Constitution tied his hands.
Mr. Laidlaw cites control of information as one of several “aspects of this movement.” Is he not familiar with the short-lived Disinformation Governance Board that sought to control all political speech through Biden administration appointed bureaucrats, or how about the Fairness Doctrine that essentially muzzled conservative talk radio until it was declared unconstitutional in 1987 and repealed, (and almost reinstated by Democrats in 2019)? There are also numerous leftists in academia and even members of the US House and Senate who have openly stated that there is too much freedom of speech.
Mr. Laidlaw refers to military in the streets, control of the media, control of higher education, and control of the Federal Reserve. There would be no “military in the streets” had Biden not essentially opened the border and waived in millions of undocumented, un-vetted foreigners who are now being removed by ICE, nor if existing laws were vigorously enforced by municipal authority to quell rampant violent crime in our national capitol.
The Left/Democrats have enjoyed control of the media, higher education, and the Fed for decades. Now that conservatives are starting to wrest some of that control away, the lefties are all in a lather and are crying foul.
