Letter to the Editor: Shop local
Dear editor:
Being an old timer, I can remember when the town of Basin had two grocery stores, two pharmacies, and two cafes with lots of gas stations plus a variety of other businesses.
I also remember not too many years ago how anxious we were to lose our only grocery store!
Now we have a locally owned grocer, a nice pharmacy and cafe plus other great locally owned businesses that meet our needs without a trip elsewhere.
Yes, some of the prices are higher, but they must make a profit for these businesses to keep serving us.
Now our town is considering supporting a corporate-owned, out-of-town Dollar General that could further threaten the existence of our local stores.
A few years ago we were thrilled to learn that our grocery store was in secure hands. Let’s not go there again. In order to keep OUR stores, we must SHOP LOCAL best we can. Tell our town council to keep Dollar General OUT of our town!
