LIE Summer Reading Program in place

This year Laura Irwin Elementary will be challenging students to keep their reading skills up over the summer by playing reading BINGO which involves all sorts of fun reading tasks.   Students have decorated their very own library tote bags to help pack their library books to and from the public library. 
Then they learned about the reading challenges they can participate in over the summer.  For the month of June, students have a BINGO sheet to work through.  For each BINGO they get, their name is entered into a drawing for a new bicycle and helmet donated by Russell & Russell CPAs. 
There will be a basket at the public library for students to drop their sheets off by July 3.  The winner of the bicycle will be drawn after the 4th of July and the winner will be contacted.  In July, the students continue with a new BINGO sheet filled with more fun reading tasks.  Big Horn County Fair has donated a family pass to an event as the prize. 
The deadline for turning in the July BINGO sheets is July 25 and the drawing for this prize will be Monday, July 29.
 For the month of August, students will be encouraged to continue reading by offering a free swim day, sponsored by the Basin Recreation Board, on August 15 for all students who bring in a reading BINGO sheet with at least one BINGO.  Students under the age of 8 need to bring an adult to swim with them as per state law. The school librarian, Mrs. Russell, will be joining them with a cooler full of popsicles.
