Motorcross is great, but what about the ice rink?
I guess when one works for the newspaper in any capacity people think one is in the know about everything. I have been approached by several people wondering why the town is now focused on a motorcross track instead of rebuilding the ice skating rink that was lost when the school district bought the land it was on.
I have to say that the thought has crossed my mind, too. I didn’t look up the old papers to read all of the particulars, but I think I remember that when the school bought the property, the town was going to find somewhere else to rebuild the ice rink with the boundary wall that was taken down.
It seems to me that the ice rink has been totally forgotten and we are moving on to something new and “better.” Maybe the ice rink issue should be addressed first. I am not saying it has to be an “either or” situation, but it seems to me that maybe discussion about how each would benefit the people of the town and which the townspeople want the most: an ice rink that gives a lot of the local youngsters something to do on weekends in the winter or a motorcross track that will benefit a smaller number of local youngsters but possibly bring outside people into town and benefit the business in town some.
I do know that a number of people have expressed that they miss the ice rink. And I know when it was going, it seemed to be used a pretty fair amount by families along with youngsters and even a few that were more young at heart than anything.
Maybe there are some other discussions that should precede the building of a motorcross track. People need to go to the meeting and bring up the issue of rebuilding the ice rink.
