She was born on May 24, 1949 in Greybull, Wyo., to George Douglas and Margaret Elizabeth (Booth) Shirran.
Raised on a ranch in Hyattville, Muriel’s early years were shaped by the vast Wyoming landscapes, yet her heart always longed for the vibrant energy of city life.
After graduating, Muriel pursued her passion for education at the University of Wyoming, where she earned a degree in child education. Her journey led her to become a dedicated language arts teacher for primary and secondary education. Eventually, Muriel found her home in Riverton/Lander at Fort Washakie and St. Stephens on the reservation. She became a representative for the teacher’s union, advocating for the rights and well-being of her fellow educators. Muriel’s commitment to education extended beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of those she touched.
