Nine Huskies recognized as all-staters

The WHSAA has announced its all-state athletes for the 2025-26 track and field season and nine Burlington Huskies received the honor. Unlike most other sports, all-state in track and field is not voted on but goes to athletes who get first or second in individual events or athletes on a winning relay team.

On the girls’ side, the honor went to freshman Kelli McNiven and junior Sarah McNiven. Kelli won the 3,200 and 1,600 meters and set new state records in both events; she also placed second in the 800 meters. It’s Sarah’s second time receiving all-state honors as she repeated her win in the high jump.

Seven athletes earned all-state on the boys’ side. Senior Paul McNiven earned the honor for the third straight year, sophomore Brad Davidson did it for the second straight year and freshmen Chase Bassett and Kellen Winters, sophomore Hyrum McNiven, juniors Connor Hoyt and James McNiven were first timers.

J. McNiven, Hoyt and Bassett were a part of the winning 3,200 relay team. Davidson took second in both the 3,200 and 1,600 meters, H. McNiven won the triple jump, Winters won all three of his individual events (3200, 1600 and 800) and was also a part of the winning 3,200 relay team and P. McNiven placed second in the 400 meters and 300 hurdles.
