It was a winning week for the Rattlers with both the Minors and Majors winning in Thermopolis last week.

MINORS

The Minors played a tight game with a final score of 6-5. Tuck Neves was the first base hit of the game and stole around to score. Milo Neves got an RBI with his hit to right field that drove in Gage Tolman. No other hits were recorded until their big 4th inning with Vanessa Winters, T. Neves, M. Neves stealing home and an RBI by Cruz Allen sent Brigham Winters home as well.

T. Neves pitched the first two innings with Winters catching. He struck out four and assisted with a force out at first to Allen and a quick play between T. Neves and Winters for a tag out at home.

Allen took over the mound with T. Neves at catcher for the 3rd and 4th innings. Allen struck out four and T. Neves caught a pop up at home plate.

One of the most intense moments happened in the 4th inning with a runner on first and second and Thermop was back at the top of their line up. “Cruz took it to full count before he struck the batter out,” said Coach Janalee Call. “I was really proud of Cruz and his mental toughness. It takes a lot of concentration to be in that situation and still be able to throw strikes.

The team’s hitting was much better this game. The umpire told us that he had a wide strike zone and wanted the kids to swing the bat. Our team obliged. Leah Kebler got her first hit of the season, Jace Winters had two foul balls which was the first contact he has had all season. Arthur Nicholson swung with more purpose and Adalyn Winters took her at bat to full count before striking out. I was pleased to see the improvement.”

Their work in practice led to another proud moment for Call. “We worked on playing outfield positions. Milo Neves showed what he had learned when a grounder was hit past second base. Jax Morgan was ready to field it, but the ball hit the edge of the grass and bounced over Jax’s head. Milo, who was playing left field, was there to back up the play and scooped up the ball and got it to second baseman to hold the runner at first. It was beautiful to watch.”

MAJORS

The Majors earned their first win of the season with a final score of 14-0. Nicholas Worthen, Brooklyn Winters and Jaxon Buck all got base hits and scored, Bret Winters earned an RBI and scored, Raiden Andrew hit a double and got 2 RBIs and Davin Buck, Tilly Neves and Porter Aagard got walked and scored to put the Rattlers up by 8 points.

Nicholas Worthen was on the mound for the first two innings and struck out four, assisted in  force out to Case Nicholson at first and a pop-fly caught by D. Buck kept Thermop at zero.

Bre. Winters and Bro. Winters got more base hits and scored. J. Buck got 2 RBIs with his base hit and scored and D. Buck, Bre. Winters and Neves got base hits and scored again.

Nicholson took over the mound in the 3rd inning, walked one and struck one out before the game was called for lightning. “The players hit really well! Thermop’s pitchers were accurate which helped a lot. Brooklyn had one of her best games ever, getting a hit every time she was up to bat. Also, our pitches made it easy on our fielders when they got so many strike outs. I was excited to have the Majors get their first win of the season,” said Call.
