The teachers and the student body of the Basin High School have entered into an arrangement with Mrs. R.L. Silver and Mrs. Peter Enders by which the former will take charge of the High School Orchestra and the latter the High School Glee Club. Little headway is being made with the beet harvest because the fields have been so wet. It is understood that many beet growers are planning on siloing their beets this year, thus enabling them to get them to the dump after the entire crop had been dug.

Sugar beets in the Basin area are being harvested at a faster rate than ever before, Dr. M.B. Walker, field manager for the Great Western Sugar company, said Thursday morning. Five percent of the crop is being harvested every day to top all previous records for time. Dr. Walker stated that 95 percent of the sugar beets in the Basin area are being harvested mechanically this year. Only 50 acres are being topped by hand.

Trenches to carry underground telephone cables began in Basin this week. Trenches were cut through sidewalks for cables that will later connect the basin equipment building of Mountain States Telephone Co. with the Torchlight and Greybull area.

The Riverside No. 1 Academic Challenge team, composed of Sarah Bayert, Robert Evans, Reid Stidolph and Jennifer Cooper, took first in the small schools category at an Academic Challenge competition held at Western Wyoming Community College. Riverside, with 104 points, finished behind Evanston overall.
