January 11, 1924
The first of a series of three spelling matches to be given in the High School was given on Friday afternoon before the Christmas vacation. The Freshman and Seniors spelled against the Sophomores and Juniors. The Sophomores and Juniors won with Mae Dilts spelling everyone down. The classes that win two out of three contests will be given a party by the other two classes.
Mr. W.F. Stipe of the Basin Bakery returned home on Saturday last after having visited on the coast and afterward, back in Kansas. Mr. Stipe informs us that his new equipment has been ordered and is on the way. He hopes to be open for business a week from Saturday.
This week, the Big Horn Marketing Association received an order from the state penitentiary for 16,000 lbs. of beans and these will be shipped shortly.

January 7, 1948
Mrs. Herbert House, 23, and Leonard A. Martin, 32, were killed early Saturday morning when the automobile in which they were returning to Basin from Greybull collided head-on with a Ford pickup driven by Harry Berry, Jr., of Greybull.
And once again, we know the Big Horn Basin is the place to live: our ground is bare while they wade in snow to their knees in the southern part of the state and elsewhere! We had some wind that was a little raw and fresh-like, but that just aired us out a little bit.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Johnson and family were hosts of a New Year’s Day dinner at the Johnson home. Their guests included the Rev. and Mrs. Floyd S. Ellison and children, Floyd, Earl, Barbara, Allan and Tommy; Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Johnston; and Mr. and Mrs. Lew Johnson and son, Roger.

The Registrar’s Office at Northwest Community College has released the names of 151 students listed on the college honor roll for the Fall semester. Included in the list are three Basin students.
Making the NWCC honor roll are Becky Briening, Debra Hartman, and Mary Smith. Other area students making the honor roll include: Fern Gernant and Carole Carrizales of Emblem; Loren Evans of Otto; Keith Hamilton of Hyattville; John Harrington and Dave Paumer both of Manderson; James McNiven, Burlington.
Six teams, each made up of boys and girls, form the new coeducational grade school basketball program in Basin this season. In former years, girls played on girls’ teams and boys on boys’ teams. Basin High School Principal Everett March and five high school students are the coaches.

The Basin Town Council began a new year with one major problem solved at its reorganizational meeting this week when its longtime municipal judge agreed to switch hats and become the new town attorney. Local attorney Chris Hinckley, who has served as municipal judge since 1984, accepted the appointment Monday night from Mayor Phil Juillard. Mayor Juillard appointed former town police officer Tom Trammell to fill the position of municipal judge.
