Mrs. H.C. Brome was the victim of a most painful accident at Billings on Wednesday of last week. She had gone to Billings with Mr. Brome a few days before and they were stopping at the Northern Hotel. While standing at the top of a flight of marble stairs in the lobby of that hostelry, she is supposed to have fainted. At any rate, she does not know just how it happened, but she fell nine feet to the bottom.

That the beet men are not giving up and admitting that they are beaten is shown in the fact that they are even now planning on just what they are going to do as soon as the snow goes off to the point where they can see the rows of beet tops.

Silas B McCracken, son of Mr. and Mrs. S.B. McCracken, Sr., left Sunday for Denver, Colo., where he will undergo a thorough physical examination preparatory to re-entering military service with the United States Air Force.

Nearly 100 persons attended a style show sponsored jointly by the Armantine club and the Business and Professional Women’s club in the high school auditorium Wednesday evening. The latest fall and winter fashions were presented by Mrs. John E. Walter, Mrs. Francis C. Bailey, Mrs. Fred Ellis, Miss Trudy Davis, Mrs. Margret Murphy and Mrs. Hillard Irwin.

From Otto: A deep drain is being dug from Glenn Hopkin’s place west through Shepard’s, Gerald Olson’s and Wesley Thorley’s. This drain is really running a large stream of water and will help to bring much of the land in the old town neighborhood into production.

Randy Royal, a college student at Chadron, Neb., spent last weekend in Basin with his mother, Mrs. Larry Royal, and other members of his family.

Marilyn Darr of Basin is one of 50 outstanding University of Wyoming students whose names will appear in the 1975-76 edition of “Who’s Who Among Students In American Universities and Colleges.” Marilyn, who is enrolled in the school of pharmacy at the university, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Darr, and she is a graduate of Basin High School.

Mrs. Bob Russell has bagged one of the largest elk, taken this season. The noble beast carried a 6-point rack, one of the finer heads to come out of the Big Horns in recent years. Two other Basin residents have returned with 4-point elk. They are Jim Raffl and Donald Russell.

Barring a major setback on the upcoming facility survey conducted by the state, the South Big Horn County Critical Access Hospital could be open for business by early to mid-November. Given recent history, hospital board members were understandably cautious during last Thursday evening’s meeting about putting a timetable on the proposed opening.

The Basin Chamber of Commerce office will soon be established in a new location. The move is made necessary because the Basin meeting house, located north of the Post Office, will soon be demolished to make room for the construction of the Big Horn County Jail.
