Report cards are out and the 10 students receiving the highest grades in high school are listed in order of their ranking: Wilma McLaughlin, Frances Gould, Francis Winters, Gerald Phillippe, Mae Dilts, Alice Hoover, Josephine Harris, Marguerite Saban, Donald Spencer and Leona Winters. 

This week the town council of Basin and Dr. L.G. Van Slyke entered a contract with Mr. Jas. A Berry, receiver of the Big Horn County Bank, by which they are to take over the building formerly occupied by that institution. Under the terms of the contract, the price to be paid is $3,500.

New York and London held their first telephone conversation Sunday, the 50th anniversary of the day Alexander Graham Bell obtained the original patent for the instrument.

March 8, 1951

Dale Perkins was elected president of the Basin chapter of Future Farmers of America Monday. He succeeds Dick Bratton as head of the organization. Bill Davis was named vice president. The new secretary is Dennis Lyman. Albert Hallcroft was elected treasurer. Others elected were James Tuttle, sentinel, and Franklin McNeal, reporter. James R. Durkee, high school agricultural instructor, is the chapter advisor. 

Hyattville children dancing in the square dance jamboree at Worland Saturday were Richard Misomelius, Mary, Martha and Becky Straight, Doris Jean Warren, Harry Deveraux, Larence Maul, Dennis and Jhohn Mercer, Ron Kaderly, Josephine Cornett, Larry Ilg, Jo Jean Thomas, Sharon Kinder, Lark Doyle and Jerry Gentzler.

Adults attending the jamboree were Mr. and Mrs. H.E. Misomelius, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Kaderly, Mr. and Mrs. Estel Kinder, Mr. and Mrs. S.C. Pritchard, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Mercer, Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Straight, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Straight, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Doyle and Miss Fay Alderson.

50 years ago

March 11, 1976

John Lee Donaldson has joined the Hesston Corporation Denver branch as territory manager. He will serve northern Wyoming. Donaldson will be responsible for establishing new Hesston dealers and working with all current dealers in his area to develop the use of Hesston farm equipment to full potential. For the past five years Donaldson was a salesman for a Basin equipment company. 

Bette Ruiz-Castanet, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Hartman, recently received her M.A. in English with a specialization in teaching English as a Second Language to foreign students. The degree was awarded by San Francisco State University.

Burlington is basking in the glow of its fourth state boys basketball championship. Members of the team include Ryan Cauffman, David Loveland, Chance Nelson, Jake Coble, Josh Alexander, Whitney Neves, Harry McNiven, Lance Dobson and Thomas Tolman. 

Riverside High School alum Kim Baxter is among the 59 University of Wyoming students listed in the 2001 edition of Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges. Baxter, the daughter of Dale and Cheryl Baxter of Basin, is majoring in zoology and physiology.
