May 6, 1926
The pipe for the extension of the water main to the site of the State Tuberculosis Sanatorium arrived Monday and Mr. Fred Frisby, who has the contract for laying the pipe, at once put his trench digging machine on the work. The work should be completed within the next 10 days.
Mr. A.C. Whitcher on Friday last backed into a barbed wire fence, with the result that his right ear was almost amputated by one of the barbs. Drs. Harris & Harris sewed it back into place and he is now reported as getting along all right.
A son, Donald Glen, has arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hartman. Glen is a son of Mr. and Mrs. A.S. Hartman of Otto.
A daughter has arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. N.E. Winters of Otto.

Thursday, May 10 has been selected at the date for the senior play, “Wuthering Heights,” a drama in four acts by John Davison, adapted from the novel by Emily Bronte. The cast includes Sharon McNeal, Ronald Harless, Loy Harris, Phillys Fleury, Floyd Ellison, Adella Boelens, Dick Bratton, Bill Richie and Marge Crosier.
Manderson Superintendent L.K. Shrader has announced that Edith Voss, daughter of Mrs. Mary Voss, will be valedictorian of the 1951 high school graduating class. Alberta Nelson will be salutatorian.
Members of the Basin Volunteer Fire Department were summoned to battle a brush fire at the Cling Watches residence. The blaze extended along a 150-foot front when weed-burning operations got out of control. No damage was done by the flames, however.

The Basin High School junior prom took place last Friday night in the gymnasium which was decorated in a theme drawn from a television series and called “When Things Were Rotten.” Dance music was provided by a group calling itself Wings of Freedom. Crowned as prom royalty were King Dan Zavorka and Queen Amy Gibler. Their attendants, all from the junior class, included Tish Williamson, Becky Batenhorst, Janice Shimogaki, Jeff Strauch, Jim Royal and Rory Perkins.
“The Spirit of 76” was the theme of the Manderson-Hyattville High School junior prom presented Saturday night in the school gymnasium. Music for dancing was provided by Gene Gravening. Ann Williams was queen of the prom while David Applegarth was the king.
The Basin High School band directed and instructed by Don Cherni received the highest possible marks at the district music festival concluded recently in Lovell.

An investigation into an early Tuesday morning break-in at Riverside High School remains under way by the Basin Police Department. The high school building in Basin was broken into some time between midnight and 6 a.m., school and police officials said. According to Basin Police Chief Dennis Peters, someone broke a window in the computer lab, on the back side of the school, to gain access.
