May 20, 1926

Curt Nadler’s supply of arnica is said to have run very low on Friday night after the fast game of baseball between a select team chosen from the Lions Club and another made up of Legionnaires. The challenge had been accepted by the Lions with the understanding that W.H. Pauley was to be umpire, but when the time came for the game, the Legionnaires insisted that they also wanted a friend at court and A.B. Martin divided the honors with Pauley.

Fredrick McNown was host at a dinner to several of his boy friends at his home on Tuesday evening, the fortunate guests were Earl Wilson, Donald Moore, Maurice Johnson, Stephen Mercer, Chester Mercer, Leslie Mercer, Wm. Vierling, Goulding Johnson, Paul McKone, Fred Ellis, Moses Palmer, Sherwood Dodge, James Zaring and Bob McKone.

May 17, 1951

Introduced by Superintendent Kilzer and the graduating class of 1951 will be Marian Adella Boelens, Richard Waldo Bratton, Fredrick Wendell Cathcart, Frances Lavonne (Nikki) Davies, Phyllis Caines Fleury, Betty Ann Gilmore, Ronald Mason Harless, Harvey Lee Johnston, Sharon Weaver McNeal, William Paul Michaelis, William Clyde Richey and Margaret Ann Ruff. 

Elizabeth Misomelius, Bill Oglesbee, and Georgia Fay Warfell received diplomas from the eighth-grade graduation ceremonies at the Hyattville schoolhouse Thursday night.

The Hyattville 4-H Judging team composed of Dick and Tom Mercer and Jim Caines placed first in the Big Horn Basin judging contest at Cody Saturday. As individuals Dick won fourth, Tom fifth and Jim thirteenth. 

The entire seven-man track squad of Basin high school has qualified for competition in the state tournament in Casper. In Powell last Saturday Dennis Lyman placed first in the high hurdles, and second in both shot put and broad jump. Bill Davis place first in the low hurdles, second in the discus throwing and third in the broad jump. Allen Ellison placed third in the 100-yard dash. Sam Saban was a close third in the 440-yard race. Ernie Walrath won third place in the 880- yard race and second in the on-mile run.

50 years ago

May 20, 1976

Coach Jim Gibbs took a two-man track team to Torrington last weekend to finish in ninth spot among 24 competing teams. Fred Werner won the discus event and was second in the shot put. Mike Dellos tied for fourth in the high jump, ran fourth in the 440 and fourth in the 220. 

Randy Royal was graduated from Chadron State College, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration and criminal justice.

The Burlington High School graduating class of 2001 includes. Clifford Joshua Alexander, Bradley Dwain Christopherson, Megan Rae Garza, Carrie Anne House, Erin Cook, Melissa Cook, Rebecca Cook, Audrey Jones, Harry James McNiven, Teri Dawn Michaels. Jessica Mitchell, Richard Ochoa, Pam Schatz, Melany Liza Sheaffer.

Local students earning degrees from Ricks College include Alicia Keith, Talia Keith and Rusty Schatz of Basin. Also receiving degrees were Brandi Cauffman and Judy McNiven from Burlington.
