June 10, 1926

Mr. B. Early, field superintendent for the Heinz company, was a Basin visitor this week, here to keep in touch with the local situation as regards to pickles. He states that the company has secured contracts for more than 300 acres of cucumbers and that no more contracts will be accepted after today. Most of the fields in this part of the county are planted and are up, with a stand of 100 percent.

Some of our turkey growers are commenting on the almost total absence of grasshoppers this year. They say that the turkeys are finding very little insect life and that they are compelled to feed right along because the turkeys do not get enough to eat as they range over the fields.

June 7, 1951

Miss Adella Boelens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor A. Boelens of Basin, has been chosen one of the attendants to Miss Carolyn Douglass, queen of the Days of ’49 scheduled in Greybull Saturday and Sunday. 

Miss Carolyn Haynes was the guest of honor Saturday afternoon at a party given by her mother, Mrs. Clarence Haynes, at the Haynes home. The occasion was Carolyn’s eighth birthday anniversary. Among the invited guests were Mary Lou Johnson, Mary Alice Hallcroft, Lorraine Martin, Cheryl Linse, Patty Michaelis, Grace Dalley, Connie Skovgard, Paula Nell Grafton, Darrell, Jimmy and Carla Hart, Cheryl and Cynthia Haynes and Richard Mattox of Worland. 

Dr. and Mrs. Claude Raffl returned Monday evening from a weekend fishing trip to West Yellowstone. 

James A. Zaring was elected commander of Marion Tanner Post No. 29 of the American Legion Monday night. Other officers named included Henry Batenhorst, Arthur Brown and Herbert House.

June 10, 1976

In their third day of intensive activity at Wonderful Wyoming Boys’ State, the delegates selected their candidates for various offices. Dan Zavorka of Basin was elected state treasurer, Dave Coronado, county treasurer, and Ed Peterson, county coroner.

Layne Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Anderson, on Saturday won the Wyoming 50-mile endurance ride, covering the course in 3 hours, 12 minutes, 49 seconds. 

Avery T. Jones, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jones and a student at Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Mich., has been listed on the honor roll of that educational institution.

Cloud Peak Middle School straight A honor roll includes Casandra Farlow, Brent Umphlett and Kaleb Zier. Those on the A honor roll include Lindsey Cooper, Caleb Frame, Andrew Fries, Justine Vigil and Amanda Nelson. 

The Basin Town Council continued discussion of next year’s budget Monday night with emphasis on looking for ways to increase employee salaries. One proposal was the possibility of cutting other areas to meet a salary proposal. Don Russell, town accountant, told the council if they would tell him “what the salary target is” and “(provide) some target on the reserves” he would look for ways to revise the budget so salaries could be increased.
