100 years ago

June 17, 1926

Among those students from Basin who have been attending the University of Wyoming at Laramie the past winter, and who returned the latter part of last week were: Misses Florence Ahrens, Capitola Hill and Dorothy Zaring and Mr. Jas. Keachie, Jr.

While at Hyattville the other day the writer had his attention called to a rather remarkable field of wheat on the ranch of Mr. Thurston Doyle. Last year after harvesting it was determined that enough wheat had dropped to seed it for this year. The field proves that he was right. 

Work on the highway unit from Basin to Elk Creek began in earnest on Monday last when Mr. I.J. Willis put his gang on the work for the Basin Construction Co. and began grading the highway from the fairgrounds south.

June 14, 1951

Lew and Stanley Johnson of Johnson Transfer this week announced the purchase of a Sherman Digger for employment in earthmoving operations in and around Basin. The equipment capable of digging a trench four feet wide and eight feet deep, is primarily intended for excavating trenches for water, sewer and gas lines. 

For our readers living out of Wyoming and the Big Horn Basin may we report the weather as follows: June 1, snow, 6 inches deep, ice frozen on water, gardens and crops are damaged. 

Ethel Marie Yon, 3½-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Yon, was recovering in the Basin hospital this week from the effects of a fall from a moving automobile. The possibility of a skull fracture was being considered as the child remained under observation. The child fell as she was playing with one of the rear door handles and the door flew open and she tumbled onto the pavement.

June 17, 1976

Linda Vessey of Manderson was graduated Saturday June 12, from Montana State college at Bozeman, She received a bachelor of science degree in accounting. 

A bridal Shower was held at the school multi-purpose room Wednesday evening in honor of Miss Kristine Marie Rubis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Rubis of Manderson.

Judson Johnson of Basin Wyoming was among students named to the scholastic honor roll for spring semester at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana. Jud, a graduate student and son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Johnson, of Basin, was among students who achieved a grade average of 4.0

University of Wyoming students from Basin listed on the Dean’s honor roll include: Roger T Cowan, Marilyn Sue Darr, Robert Allen Hill, Kevin Devonn Jones, Bruce Gould Russell and Joyce Shimogaki.
