July 29, 1926

Miss Marie Arney of Worland and Mr. Fred Maller of Burlington were united in Marriage Monday afternoon at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. 

The Heinz pickling station in now open and ready for the receipt of cucumbers. They are not coming in in large quantities as yet, but with favorable weather, it will be but a few days until the station will be one of the busiest places in town. As a result of a tragedy which took place at the ranch of Charles Vonberg, in the Orchard Bench, Tuesday evening, Joe Martinez is dead and Marcelina Lavata is in the county jail.

July 26, 1951

Leo A. Smith has been named manager of the Big Horn Co-Operative Marketing association to succeed C.W. Howard. The announcement was made following a meeting of the cooperatives board of directors Monday night. Mr. Smith at present is assistant manager and secretary of the association. He will assume his new duties on September 1. 

Warrant Officer Junior Grade Miles B Harston distinguished himself by gallantry in action near Inje, Korea, on May 23, 1951. Harston’s wife, who lives in Lovell, is the former Donna Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Anderson of Otto. 

Cynthia Haynes was the guest of honor at a birthday party given by her mother, in George Washington Memorial Park Saturday. The invited guests included Trudy Brooks, Cheryl Hartman, Mary Lou Johnson, Deborah Russell, Anita Skovgard, Vickie Boelens, Connie Skovgard, Kay Ruffing, Kristine Smith, Grace and Patsy Dalley, Karla, Jimmy and Darrell Hart, Charles Perkins, Cheryl and Carolyn Haynes and Junior Goldsberry and Richard Mattox of Worland. 

Wyoming highway patrolmen are always eager to assist motorists. Recently they’ve added a new service to their duties. Tourists who misjudge distances in Wyoming and run out of gasoline will get help from these men. Captain W.R. Bradley, patrol chief, says that all patrol cars will carry a five-gallon can of gasoline to aid stranded motorists.

Mr. and Mrs. Herman Batenhorst took their son, Tom, to the Wyoming Junior Golf Classic in Gillette at the Country Club on Tuesday July 20. Tom won first place in the twelve-year-old division. Twenty-three boys competed in that same division. 

Hortense Zaring, acting town clerk for Basin, announced today that four people had filed for town council and that incumbent Mayor Chester E Flyr had filed for re-election. Those filing for council are Dorlene Royal, Doris Crowell, Dick Kost and Ben Strauch.

Eric Adams, the former publisher of The Basin Republican Rustler and the Greybull Standard, has been chosen as a Knight International Press fellow and will spend six months in Central and Eastern Europe assisting independent media organizations. 

Members of the Burlington Youth League baseball team include Mychael Wiles, Spencer Flores, Wesley Neves, Logan Parker, Justin Preator, Ammon Howard, Tim Allen, Kaytlin Howard, Josh Preator, Coulter Neves, Toni Williams and Coulter Hoyt.
