February 7, 1924
On Feb. 1, Messrs. O.R. Booker and Joe Messier resigned as employees of the Yellowstone Motor Company and took over the Basin Garage, heretofore the property of Mr. Mack McKone. Mr. McKone is preparing to open for business in the room adjoining the Talbott Studio, where he will carry a supply of automobile accessories and continue the agency of Overland and Willys-Knight cars.
Miss Arline Thayer of Meeteetse and Mr. Constant Webster of Burlington were united in marriage in Billings on Thursday of last week. They returned on Monday to Burlington, where they will make their home.

February 3, 1949
Several Basin youths began late last week to train for competition in the American Legion-sponsored tournament to determine State Amateur Boxing Championships. Francis D. Bailey, Basin newcomer and former amateur pugilist, is supervising the exercises in the Legion Hut. Names as probable contenders were James Dooley in the heavyweight division, Harvey E. Blank in the light-heavyweight bracket, Duane Clark in the featherweight division, and Bill Michaelis in the lightweight class.
Bruce Kennedy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert V. Kennedy, has been chosen as one of the editors of the Daily Nebraskan, the University of Nebraska newspaper. Mr. Kennedy is a sophomore at the university.
One of the former civilian conservation corps buildings, now owned by Big Horn County, has been sold to School District 17. The building will be moved from its present location on the county fairgrounds to the school and remodeled to provide space for classes in agriculture.

The initial loan of $82,000 that brought the Big Horn Rural Electric Company into existence in 1937 was paid off last year and the mortgage was burned at the firm’s annual meeting in Basin last Saturday.
The Manderson-Hyattville High School remained closed Tuesday with four teachers and 13 students (a third of the student body) absent because of the London flu that is spreading across the nation.
A Big Horn Basin ranch won grand champion honors for its shorthorn bull at the recent winter fair in Bozeman, Mont. The honors were won by the Green Valley Ranch which is owned and operated by the Hoyt family.

Recent improvements to the Town of Basin’s fire hydrant system, along with fire department training and equipment upgrades, has resulted in an improved rating for area homeowners’ fire insurance. The fire insurance classification has improved from a Class 9/9 to a Class 5/9. The new classification may result in a decrease in property insurances.
