September 17, 1926

The brick work at the sanatorium is practically completed and the concrete slab which forms the roof is now being poured. The building will be completely in the next day or so and the work will then progress rapidly.

Mr. C.C. Peters, one of “the progressive” farmers of the 

Alamo Flat, has installed a new lighting plant in his farm home on the Alamo Flat. All of these conveniences make life just a little pleasanter for the housewife and for all others concerned. 

Miss Dorothy Zaring left yesterday for Laramie to resume her school work in the University of Wyoming. Miss Florence Ahrens leaves for the same place Sunday. Leon Robertson, Leo and Turner Smith and Lyle Peterson are planning on leaving for Lincoln the latter part of the week

September 13, 1951

Many new students registered on Monday of this week. The total enrollment is now 420. The auditorium will have to be reseated, as thirty more students will have to be provided with seats than there are now provided in the auditorium. 

The Burlington schools opened on September 4, with 145 pupils registering during the week. Registration figures broken down denote that there are eight seniors, 15 juniors, eight sophomores, 19 freshmen, 12 eighth, 12 seventh, 10 sixth, eight fifth, five fourth, 13 third, 16 second and 19 first graders. 

Nearly 200 persons attended formal presentation rites Monday evening during which Cloud Peak aerie No. 3086 received its charter at the lodge home in Basin. Members of the Powell Eagles aerie and the ladies’ auxiliary of that organization were in attendance.

September 16, 1976

The Big Horn County Historical Society met on Sunday, Sept 12, in Basin to discuss the enrollment of the Basin Republican Rustler building and printing equipment on the National Register of Historic Landmarks. According to word received from the office of the Wyoming Recreation Commission dated September 9, the building was placed on the register July 19 and is now eligible for preservation funding through the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.

Burlington should soon have additional firefighting assistance, according to U.S, Sen, Mike Enzi, R-Wyo. The Burlington Fire Departments’ grant application, submitted under the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s assistance to firefighters grant program, has been approved, Enzi said this week. The Burlington Fire Department will receive $82,170 in grant money or 90 percent of the approved project cost of $91,000 to fund the acquisition of new protective fire equipment. 

A wildfire near Hyattville was declared out by the Wyoming Bureau of Land Management, after rain halted the fire Friday night. The Mule Fire burned less than one acre north of Hyattville, One engine from BLM’s north zone responded to the fire.
