In contests held at the auditorium of the Basin High School on Tuesday evening, Miss Ruth Wickwire and Miss Cathyrn Extra were chosen to represent the school in the voice and piano contests in Laramie during High School Week. Miss Doris Ewers and James Devereaux won the debate of the evening.
Basin people were astounded on Monday evening last to learn that there had been a hold-up in Basin. Ed Follett, on his way downtown from the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.F. Peterson, where he had visited ‘til 8:15 p.m., was met near the Nadler home by three masked men. One of them flashed a flashlight in his face and, with a gun pointed at him, demanded that he throw up his hands. The robbers got his pocket change of a little over two dollars.

Harold N. Engle, a reserve first lieutenant, has been named commander of the newly organized reserve military police unit in this area. The police company, of the type assigned to posts, camps, and stations, will be headquartered in Greybull.
Oscar Scholz has returned to Basin from Thermopolis where he has been engaged in putting up ice.
Bobkitten news: We enjoyed our Valentine party and our delicious lunch was furnished by Mrs. Wright, Mrs. Harris, and Mrs. Ingalls. Our little visitors were Rodney Hartman, Cheryl Hartman, Almadee Ashment, Pat Weaver, Darrel and John Hart, Linda Russell, Roger Johnson, Bob Miller, Debbie Russell, Penny Kay Chapin, Bob Hastings, George Deveraux, Joe Wheeler, and Jim Raffl.

Larry David Akin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Akin, has been designated as Basin’s outstanding teenager of America. Selected for the honor due to his scholastic record and community service, he was nominated by High School Principal Everett March.
Dawn Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Johnson, and Becky Briening, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Breining, students at Northwest Community college in Powell, have been elected to Phi Epsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.
Members of Mrs. Robert Crowell’s public speaking class at Basin High School competed at Lovell last Saturday. Those competing were: Steva Marcus, Debbie Davis, Rebecca Kelsey, Janey Winterholler, Julie Kost, Ann Zaring, Annie Kappen, Barbara Graham, Leilani Anderson.

Ashley Carrizales will be one of three Big Horn County students competing in the Wyoming State Spelling Competition in Casper. Ashley finished second in the Big Horn County Spelling Contest. John Marcus finished the written test with the highest score among all the contestants. Charlie Cauffman, Ashlee Alexander, and Adam Alexander also made it to the oral round.
