November 6, 1924
Billy Reidl was operated for appendicitis on Friday last week at the Basin Hospital. He is now reported as getting along very nicely.
During the big party folks were having at Hyattville on Tuesday night to receive the election returns, it was announced that twin boys had arrived at the house of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hyatt.
The Rustler would like to express its appreciation for one woman, who has been in close touch with the lives of Basin’s people for many years and never failed to do her part in a courteous and most gratifying way. We refer to Mrs. Carl Wilson, chief operator of the local telephone exchange.

November 3, 1949
Construction of an entirely new front for Osborn’s Variety store was begun Saturday. A temporary housing, which will permit the existing front to be removed without leaving the interior unprotected, has been constructed and the workmen are engaged in remodeling the storefront.
Bruce Kennedy, son of Gilbert V. Kennedy of Basin, has been named student council representative for the three campus publications at the University of Nebraska, at Lincoln. Kennedy, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences, serves on the staffs of “The Daily Nebraskan,” student newspaper; “The Cornhusker,” the student yearbook and “Cornshucks,” a humor magazine.
Irene Dooley, a member of the Gould Boosters 4-H club of Greybull, scored high-point individual in the 4-H livestock judging contest held at Worland Sunday in connection with the annual Big Horn Basin Hereford breeders show and sale. Forty-five 4-H members from Fremont, Hot Springs, Washakie, Park and Big Horn counties participated. Phyllis Caines of the Paintrock Punchers 4-H club tied for fifth place.

The municipal garbage collection system is the subject of a study being made by the town council. The system’s service, revenue and equipment are being studied. Clerk-Treasurer R.W. Russell told members of the council at their meeting Monday night that figures are being assembled as well as cost requirements for a new, larger trash packer.

A felony aggravated assault and battery charge against a 20-year old Emblem man was dismissed last week by Big Horn County Attorney Bob Gish. The man was originally accused of shooting his cousin in the hip during an argument in March. Gish maintains he had no choice and cited the fact that the victim — and primary witness — has since been deported to Mexico. He stated that the testimony of the only other available eyewitness would support the defendant’s claim that he was acting in self-defense.
