January 22, 1925

The Basin Independents played the Worland town team on Friday evening of last week and won by a score of 18-15. On the Worland team were Harkins and Mileski, who were members of the Worland team when it won the state championship. They showed up well for men who perhaps had very little training of late, but the Basin boys held them down and finally won. 

In the school notes, the word “questionnaire” is misspelled in three places and the blame is in this office. The copy furnished us from the school was correct. 

Dorothy Hayzlett, Wilma English, Eunice Sykes and Alberta Pickett underwent baptism last Sunday evening. 

75 years ago

January 19, 1950

Plans for improvements to be made on the Methodist church building in Basin were announced following a meeting Monday night of the church board of trustees. The plans call for construction of a ground-level entrance to the church basement to be constructed on the northwest corner of the present structure. The estimated cost of the new addition is $750.

Workmen are busy this week completing improvements at the Basin hospital. A new linoleum floor covering is being put down on both floors of the building, and the interior of the institution is receiving a thorough cleaning and repainting. New kitchen equipment and plumbing fixtures have been installed to add to the increased serviceability and pleasant appearance of the hospital. 

Cub Scout Den Three members held a brief business session during which they made plans for future projects. Those present were Jon Ashment, Gary Hartman, Terry McKone, Allen Mercer, Tommy Pelton, Steve Hogue and Jimmy Saban. Bill Miller was absent.

January 23, 1975

The addition of a second man to Basin’s constabulary has greatly expanded police coverage for the town. Richard Brian Minard is the new policeman hired by the town of Basin under a federally funded program known as PEEPPE. His addition gives the town police protection during the daylight hours as well as during the night. Ned and Truday Lieuallen are the new managers of the Highway Café in Basin. They have leased the facility with option to buy from B.W. Olson. The establishment has been operated for the past year by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Smith, who expect to return to California.

January 20, 2000

Ron Boyd has been named as the new president of Security State Bank. The announcement was following the annual board meeting of Security State Bank/Financial Security Corporation held Friday, Jan. 14. Also promoted was Cindy Schlattmann to the office of senior vice-president; Nancy Quinn, assistant vice-president and manager of the office in Worland, with Gina Anderson named assistant cashier. Anderson will remain in charge of the MasterCard program, and will also be serving in bank operations. Doug Crouse is the new chairman of the board. 

Mike and Gretchen Kelso of Emblem are announcing that Bryce James officially joined their family on Dec. 23. Bryce, who was born on Sept. 1, 1993, is now six years old, weighs 50 pounds and is 3’10”tall. His maternal grandparents are JoEllen and the late Tom Gasvoda. Jim and Audrey Kelso are the paternal grandparents.
