February 5, 1925

The Basin Meat Market has been purchased by Mr. Axel Nielsen of Worland, who will reopen it for business on Saturday morning. 

Messrs. P.V. Simonton, Jay D. Robbins, and J.E. Goodrich, who are to have a sale at the H.P. Perkins ranch on Tuesday next, have recently organized the Manderson Tie Company. They have secured a large acreage of timber in the Big Horns above Broken Back and will begin cutting ties just as soon as the weather will permit. The ties will be hauled to the Nowood and floated to Manderson. 

On Thursday evening of last week, Mrs. T.K. Bishop entertained at a dinner in honor of John Thomas’s 12th birthday. Guests were Federick McNown, Donald Moore, Sherwood Dodge, Frederick and Franklin Johnson, George Hovey, George Ingalls, Lawrence Lockhart, Merle Skovgard and James Zaring.

February 2, 1950

Charles M. Smith Construction company of Thermopolis was low bidder last week for the job of constructing a bridge over the Greybull river on the Otto-Woodruff road south of Otto. 

Completion of the Girl Scout House and payment of all outstanding bills against it will be celebrated by the Girl Scout Town committee Feb. 9, with an invitational square dance and cake walk. 

Supt. Claytor Chantrill has released the semester honor roll for the Burlington high school Names of the fortunate students are Carol Neves, Mads Cottrell, Udell McIntosh, Cherry Ann Ried, Donna Cook, Gertrude Davis and Wanda Yorgason. 

Mr. and Mrs. E.V. Harter and Jo Ellen and Lois Hill were dinner and supper guests at the C.R. Hill home Sunday.

February 6, 1975

Apparent low bids were accepted last Wednesday night for the proposed $430,000 enlargement of the Big Horn county courthouse in Basin. The project calls for the building of two wings on the present building and the installation of an elevator on the north side. When the general contract is signed, the Thermopolis firm will have 320 working days to complete the project. 

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Paxton, Bob and Larry, were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Paxton and family, in Basin. 

Big Horn County Clerk Ellen Cowan Whipps issued a marriage license Jan. 31 to Roy Michael Lowe and Carol E. Peterson, both of Burlington.

The South Big Horn County Rural Water District’s distribution project is nearing completion. The five-year project is ahead of schedule and on budget. Construction is currently underway on the third phase of the five-year project, which will extend the water line to the Greybull River. 

The following Cloud Peak Middle School students have been named to the second quarter and first semester honor rolls. Straight-A: Jamie Jares. The A honor roll includes: Cassie Coronado, Bradee Crosby, Cody Jeffers, Brenton Paxton, Jami Skarda, Casandra Farlow and Justine Vigil.

Liz Kidner won the all-around title, and Vicki Lowe and Tara Jones finished second and third, respectively, in the vault to spark the Worland High School gymnasts to a first-place finish in their division at Saturday’s Worland invitational.
