J.I. Altman, who was arrested in March and held responsible for a fire at Manderson which caused an estimated loss of $40,000, was found guilty here by a jury in district court and sentenced to not less than 15 and not more than 20 years in the state prison. The jury deliberated only a few minutes and upheld the state’s contention that Altman had started the fire willfully and with the intention of defrauding the insurance company. The fire was subdued and then broke out anew in Altman’s barber shop and it was clearly evident at the time that he had something to do with its origin. Several weeks after the fire, a large quantity of Altman’s goods was found hidden in a ranch house.
