May 7, 1925

Otto Plaga and S.R. Owens, federal agents, and Deputy Sheriff Ted Denny made a big haul on Friday last when they took into custody Barney Hollywood, who was operating a moonshine plant at a point on Laddie creek near the Goodrich mill above Hyattville. In accordance with the provisions of the federal law, the officers kept only enough whisky to furnish evidence and destroyed all of the property, including four large stills, 17 gallons of whisky, even 50-gallon mash barrels, 50 gallons of mash, oil burners and stoves and one tent. 

The Rustler was in error last week when it stated that the R.B. West library had been purchased by Attorney C.L. Brome. This library was purchased by County Attorney T.M. McKinney, and the Rustler regrets that for the moment the memory was faulty. 

75 years ago

May 4, 1950

Miss Adella Boelens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Boelens, has been named by Marion Tanner unit No. 29 of the American Legion as its candidate for Girl State. 

Burlington High School is preparing for the introduction of a Smith-Hughs agriculture course to the curriculum for the coming year. The foundation has been laid for the agriculture building which is being moved from Heart Mountain. 

The following students were on the Burlington High School honor roll for the last six-week period: Wanda Yorgason, Donna Cook, Gertrude Davis, Alan Neves, Robert McFarland, Jack Wilkins, cherry Ann Reid, Juilia Davidson, Udell Mcintosh, Carol Neves, Thelbert Johnson and Donna Davis. 

Mr. and Mrs. Mailen Hibbert are parents of a boy born to them last Wednesday at the Basin Hospital. 

Hyattville—Mr. and Mrs. Nickolas Simmons of Stuart, Neb., have announced the engagement of Mrs. Simons’ daughter, Miss Loretta Deermer, to Milton Hyatt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam C. Hyatt of Hyattville.

May 8, 1975

Foundations and footings for the concession building at the new recreation park west of town were poured last week and pouring of the jogging track curb is under way, according to Gene Roccabruna of Gordon Sykes Contractor.   

Jay Yorgason is reported recuperating in a Worland Hospital from injuries received about 10 p.m. Saturday night when the motorcycle he was riding and a pickup truck driven by Elden Sanders collided on a straight stretch of road about a mile west of Otto. Yorgason suffered a broken leg and a badly lacerated hand in the mishap.

After 32 years of checking, stocking, bagging, bookkeeping, “doing everything you can think of” at the family-owned grocery store, Susan Brundage VandeBoom has sold her interest in Wheeler’s IGA to Ann Brundage, handed over the reins, and picked up her final check. Susan has been a familiar face at Wheeler’s since 1968 when she married the late Bob Brundage. “I tell everyone I married a grocery basket,” she says with a laugh.

Jim and Brenda Miller of Basin are the parents of a 7 pound 14.6 ounce baby girl born April 21 at West Park Hospital in Cody. Ashley Mae made her appearance at 6:42 p.m. she has a six-year-old brother Mike.
