Chemical free? Well almost. Town residents of Basin, Manderson, and those who have tapped into the main transmission line of the Basin Area Water Supply system are now drinking water that is free of the varied chemicals that were necessary to treat the river water used in area homes for the past 100 years. Last week, members of the Joint Powers Board of the new system gave the go-ahead to fill the newly constructed 12-inch line and feed the two towns with artesian water that flows from two wells. The water from those wells is treated only with chlorine at the wellhead to kill any bacteria that might be picked up in its transport through the transmission line.
