Shelby Gibler has accepted a position as operator at the municipal light and water plant, it was announced this week. He will assume his duties on August 28.

Thanks to a little help from the umpires and the fact that the game was “rained out with darkens” after two and one-half innings, according to Manager Peewee Harris, the Old Fossills of the Rotary Club Baseball team scored a 10-8 upset over the Basin Boys squad after accepting the latter’s challenge Friday evening. The manager pointed out that the Old Fossills took full advantage of the challenge which allowed them to name their own umpires. He also expressed thankfulness that the swift fall of darkness prevented the game’s going more than two and one-half innings thus forestalling a rash of post-game paralysis among his players. Donald Wheeler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wheeler, captained the boys’ team which was well on its way to setting a new record for stolen bases when the game ended. The larceny of the basepaths was partly attributed to rheumatism and bi-focals of the Old Fossills.
