Mr. J.D. Kimbro was a Basin visitor the latter part of last week and while here purchased the Porter house at the corner of Third and A streets. He and his family will soon move to Basin to make this his home.
Mr. C.C. Phillippe arrived on Saturday from Hay Springs, Neb., and this week takes over the management of the J.G. Noll Lumber Company.
The local pickle salting station is making a most remarkable record. On Saturday last, the station received more than twice the volume of cucumbers received on any other day previously.

Enrollment figures for the first day of registration at the Basin schools for the 1950-51 school year were released by Supt. Robert L. Kilzer Wednesday. He reports that 331 students entered school on the first day: 32 first graders, 42 second graders, 30 third graders, 26 fourth graders, 28 fifth graders and 27 in sixth. In junior high and high school, there are 32 in seventh, 33 in eighth, 29 freshman, 20 sophomores, 21 juniors and 11 seniors.
School bells rang again Tuesday officially opening another term here in Otto. Mrs. Linnie Wardell will teach grades four, five and six and Mrs. Fon McIntosh of Burlington will take the first three grades. Lettie Anderson will be the school custodian and school lunch cook. School busses will be driven by Wesley Thorley who takes the high school and junior high to Greybull, Logan Hoover will again take the Stringtown district to Greybull, Hy Williams will drive the south side Stringtown bus, Delbert Jones the northside bus and Clarence Duncan will bring the children in from the south.

Mayor Chester E. Flyr has appointed Reginald Bickman to the post of police chief. Bickman, who has already assumed his new duties, succeeds Bill Harless. Terry Patterson, who has been acting police chief in the interim, will continue as a member of the force.
Big Horn County home economics judging team, composed of Nancy Eckerdt of Basin and Sheryl Emmett and Wilma Anderson of Lovell placed second out of 23 teams at the State Fair in Douglas. Nancy Eckerdt, second high individual, won a trip to the Denver Roundup in January.
Basin Postmaster Arthur J. Batenhorst said Monday that he has received notice that the rate for first class mail will rise to 10 cents for the first ounce. The price of a single postcard will drop from 8 cents to 7 cents.

While the waiting game drags on for South Big Horn County Hospital District officials and the critical access hospital they would like to open, there is at least some good news. The opening of the Critical Access hospital will signal the return of localized 24-hour emergency care and hospitalization for residents of south Big Horn County who for the past seven years have had to go elsewhere for those services.
For the second time in about as many weeks, an area resident has been struck by a rattlesnake. Norman Preator was taking a water sample. When he reached his dipper into the water, he was struck on the little finger.
