September 17, 1925

Uncle Dan Galloway announces that since the boys and girls played fair with his melon patch this year, he will give them all a treat at the campgrounds Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock — providing the weather is all right. Everybody come and enjoy themselves with Uncle Dan. 

Mrs. C.R. Lockhart was painfully burned on Tuesday afternoon by the explosion of a pressure cooker. Her left arm and the side of her face were badly scalded and she is compelled to remain in bed for a few days. 

The world series of baseball games for the championship of America will be contested by the Washington Americans and the Pittsburg Nationals.

 

75 years ago

September 14, 1950

Bobbie Roush, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.M. Roush, is a patient at Basin hospital where he was taken Monday after a shotgun was accidentally discharged into his heel. Twenty-five pellets entered the heel, it was reported. He remains at the hospital under treatment. 

James Tuttle, Town of Basin employee, has been ordered to report for duty with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Riley, Kan., on September 23. Mr. Tuttle holds a sergeant’s rating. 

Jiro Sato, son of Mr. and Mrs. Y Sato, has been called back into military service, it was learned this week. Jiro served for four years with the armed forces in Italy during the Second World war. 

Miss Aleen Holbrook, Big Horn County home demonstration agent, will leave this weekend for New York City, N.Y., to enter Columbia University where she will study for her master’s degree. She will visit relatives in Utah before continuing to New York.

September 18, 1975

Jerry Greenfield, former Basin resident, has accepted a position with the First National Bank in Kemmerer, it was learned this week. He was formerly associated with the American National Bank in Riverton. Greenfield is a graduate of Basin High School and had received training in B.A.I. studies in accrual accounting and two years with the Colorado School of Banking. He began his banking career in Basin in 1965.

Victor Olsen of Basin was notified this month that his son, Brent, has achieved an academic standing in a class of navigation systems at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. Brent is the grandson of Mrs. Marie Mills, also of Basin.

September 14, 2000

Investigation is continuing into a burglary at Riverside High School last week. According to the Basin Police Department, the break-in occurred sometime between 10 p.m. Friday evening and 7 a.m. Saturday morning, when it was discovered by custodian Junior Coronado. Entry was gained by breaking a small window in the cafeteria and reaching through to open a door from the inside. 

Chad and Jamie Keisel of Greybull are the parents of their second child, and second son, born at 11:47 a.m. Sept. 2, at West Park Hospital in Cody. Zackary Chad, who weighed eight pounds four ounces joins 19-month old Gabriel Lane at the family home. 

Students at Burlington High School elected Joshua Alexander to serve as president of the student body for the 2000-2001 school year. Also elected were David Loveland, Celeste Rasmussen and Scott Davidson.
