Possible scam using mailed postcards targeting medical alert device customers

Residents in the area may have received an “alarming” post card recently.

The postcard targets people with medical alert devices/alarms.

The postcard states, “We’re going nuts trying to reach you about your Free Medical Alert Device.” An 800 number is provided for people to call to verify their eligibility.

The South Big Horn Senior Center provides Life Alert Devices to local seniors.

Fawn Goton from the center said she is believes the post cards are likely a scam. If Life Alert were going to reach out, they would contact the center, not the individuals.

The phone number on the post card is not the correct number for the Life Alert.

In addition, there is not a company name on the card.  When the number is called a live person answers the phone and asks for the code on the card.  When asked that person said they were in Virginia Beach, VA and the name of the company.

He continued that those that received the post card are eligible for a free device. He did not disclose what the monthly cost would be. That company name did not show up on after an online search for it.  The phone number did show on scammer info.
