Is this really who we are?

Dear Editor:

Ladies and the men who loves us, are you aware what is happening in Texas? The Texas attorney general is right now running through courts, probably to the Supreme Court, on whether they have the right in another state to get a woman’s medical record of suspected of having an abortion so they can prosecute her. They are challenging the HIPPA law. You know, your medical record that even your spouse and family cannot see without your permission.

Are you also aware in counties in Texas by the border they try to restrict women traveling to Mexico? Idaho and Tennessee are trying to advance bills restricting women’s ability to travel. In North Dakota, the abortion ban was overturned; I’m paraphrasing what the judge said that these laws were written by men who never even consider a woman to have rights. Remember, they were considered property.

I remember when we passed an amendment to protect our healthcare rights. I remember one of the big worries was death squads where people wouldn’t get the care they needed. Are we not doing that by denying women basic healthcare to save their lives?

In Georgia, two women lost their lives. One was Amber Thurman, a 28-year-old single mother who doctors and nurses denied care for 20 hours before giving her the care she needed. It was too late. Now her son, who is 6, will not have his mom, which is tragic.

In Texas, my favorite story is the woman who went to her hospital miscarrying, was denied healthcare, went into the hospital’s bathroom and miscarried with her husband on the phone with 911.

Is this who we are? Cruel to women who are suffering?

To the young women out there, remember, they just voted down IVF for the second time and voted no to codify birth control. Just think, in these states that have near total bans, 9-,10- and 11-year-olds are going into elementary and middle schools pregnant or mothers.

Cruelty is the point.

Women are dying, becoming sterile from lack of basic care and losing their health. Our representatives — one tried to shut down the only clinic and the other was in favor of child brides.

Trump did this to women. People are not having abortions in the ninth month and killing babies. It’s called murder at that point. Farmers, read chapter 10 of Project 2025. It’s a scary read.
