Rebel football crushes Ten Sleep
Prepare for high-scoring Midwest team Friday
The Riverside Rebels traveled to Ten Sleep Saturday to compete against the Pioneers and brought home a win; the final score was 53-18.
Though the game certainly went the Rebels’ way this time, they took the opportunity to work in some of the younger players and get them some more experience on the field.
“We were up 46 nothing at the end of the first quarter and then just took the rest of the game as an opportunity for the younger kids to play,” said Coach Jason Mitchell. “We played well, and Ten Sleep is struggling this year and low on numbers… we took advantage of our opportunities early and had a couple big plays that added up quickly.”
There were some notable highlights in the game: big hits, great throws and good opportunities for the younger players.
Coach Mitchell elaborated, “We had a couple big hits by the young kids, Kenneth McClure had a really big hit in the fourth quarter, Gavyn Cervantes threw two touchdown passes, it’s not often that your backup gets to throw multiple touchdown passes in a varsity game.
“The one thing that was unique about this game is when our young kids, when our JV and our backups got on the field they were still playing against a varsity team because Ten Sleep didn’t have enough JV kids to sub in so it was nice to see some of those freshmen sticking their heads in and making plays.
“Jaxon Womack also is a freshman who got quite a few carries even in the first half, he got to play even alongside the varsity kids for a little bit.”
Looking forward, Coach Mitchell commented that their next game will most likely be a much more difficult game, referencing how Midwest performed against Ten Sleep in their game. “Midwest, who we play next, got 94 points, and so, you know we have our work cut out for us against their offense.”
Friday night’s game starts at 6 p.m. on the Rebels’ home field.
