Rebels’ playoff fate tied to outcome of Meeteetse game
The Rebels battled the Huskies last Friday with Huskies coming out on top, 62-16. The score only tells part of the story, though, as there were some noteworthy plays for the Rebels.
Offensively, Ryder Kozisek returned an onside kick for a touchdown and added 56 yards rushing and receiving. Reece Whisenant scored the Rebels’ other touchdown on a 3-yard run after a series of passes from Avery Clifford to multiple receivers. Curtis Strohschein connected on each of his two-point attempts, Reece Whisenant ran for 72 yards and Avery Clifford threw for 110 yards. Wyatt Daly-Patterson had five receptions for 41 yards, as well as six runs for 32 yards. Defensively, the Rebels were led by Hyson Hill, who made seven tackles, broke up three passes, and had an interception. Ryder Kozisek had eight tackles and an interception, while Wyatt Daly-Patterson had an interception of his own to go with his six tackles.
“Burlington was just the better team,” said Coach Jason Mitchell. “They were more physical than us at the point of attack, more elusive runners than us with the ball in their hands, and better tacklers than us in open space.”
He went on to say, “We may not feel as if we played our best game, but sometimes you have to acknowledge when you were beat by a better opponent on that day.”
The Rebels host Meeteetse Friday at 7 p.m. in their final game of the regular season.
“Meeteetse will be our most significant opponent of the season,” said Mitchell. “Win and we get to host a playoff game next weekend. Lose and we’re traveling back down to near the Colorado border.”
