Rebels come up short in bid for state tourney

The Riverside Lady Rebels began the Class 1A West Regional in Lander Friday, Oct. 31 against the Cokeville Panthers. They lost in three sets, with their first being their lowest scoring game, 25-13. As they went on, they were able to gain momentum and score more points each game, but it wasn’t enough to beat Cokeville.

After the loss, the Lady Rebels moved to the losers’ bracket where they faced the Farson-Eden Pronghorns later that day. They fared much better in that one, winning in four: 25-8, 25-22, 17-25, 25-12.

With the win, Riverside advanced to play Dubois, who they lost to a few weeks earlier, in the deciding match to see which team goes to state and which team gets eliminated. The Rebels came up short, losing 25-18, 25-17, 25-22.

 “The team worked hard to prepare for the regional tournament, driven by the goal of advancing to state,” said Coach Cindi Smith. “Although we came just one win short of extending our season, we have much to be proud of. The girls achieved numerous team and individual goals and demonstrated consistent growth throughout the year. They learned the value of hard work, teamwork, inner strength, and compassion-qualities that will serve them well both on and off the court.”
