Win 36-20 on home turf Friday

The homecoming game on the Rebels’ home turf was an engaging game, with ups and downs and a roller coaster of emotions to experience.

“We did some real good things,” said Coach Jason Mitchell. “I think we struggled to stack positives on other positives; you know, every drive we had some really good things happen but we shot ourselves in the foot a lot. We probably left 20 something points on the board just from … having three good plays and then one poor one then two good plays then a poor one. We just put ourselves in a tough situation a few times.”

The Rebels started off strong with Wyatt Daly-Patterson scoring their first play. He also got the last touchdown for the final score of the game and managed to get an interception and broke up three other passes. He finished with 102 receiving yards.

Reece Whisenant rushed for 232 yards and procured three touchdowns. Though his third touchdown wasn’t from as dramatic of a distance, he still got the ball into the end zone.

Avery Clifford had the most tackles, 11, and threw three touchdown passes.

Curtis Strohschein was credited with nine tackles, two of them behind the line of scrimmage.

This game was quite a bit different than the last game and when asked what the temperature of the team was following this game, Coach Jason Mitchell said, “Anytime you struggle, the next week, just getting a win just resets your mentality.

“The feeling of walking off a field especially a homecoming game and getting a win you’ll take that anytime over any type of loss. And homecoming week, you know, football coaches probably above all else understand it, but homecoming week is, there [are] more distractions than all the rest of the year combined.”

Coach Mitchell is optimistic of the team’s upcoming games. “To win that one put us back on track and probably sets the stage for what we hope is a few wins in a row here.”

Riverside’s next game will be in Ten Sleep at 2 p.m. Saturday.
