Rebels lose by 10 at St. Stephens

The Rebels had a busy weekend last week, starting with a Friday evening matchup against the alumni that featured a pretty good turnout of fans and a competitive game.

“The alumni game was a success,” said Coach Scott Winters.

More than 20 Riverside alumni came to play in the fundraiser event against the varsity boys.

The following day the Rebels travelled to St. Stephens to play the Eagles.  It was a tough game, according to Coach Winters, whose team fell 63-53.

“We struggled offensively, we turned the ball over too much and missed a lot of layups and close range shots,” he said.

On a more positive note, the Rebels have emphasized rebounding in practices and that was on display in this game

“We played with a lot of heart, never gave up, and were able to out rebound them,” he said.

The Rebels coach was candid and honest in his appraisal of where the issues hindering the team are but equally keen to have another opportunity to compete against the Eagles again.

“I look forward to playing them again because we didn’t play our best basketball and shot about as poorly as we could but we were still able to compete. I think we can have a different outcome when they play us at home later this season.”

The Rebels play Ten Sleep at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10.
