Rebels stormed the field for military appreciation game
Offense was on full display last Friday afternoon as your Riverside Rebels stormed the field against the Midwest Oilers for our Military Appreciation Game. Seeing our community pack the stands to cheer on the team and honor our nation’s veterans was incredible. It’s events like this that truly make our community second to none. Thank you to everyone who came out to support such a great cause!
On the field, the Rebels put on a clinic, firing on all cylinders with an explosive, balanced attack that racked up 12 touchdowns. The squad plowed its way to 281 rushing yards while adding 140 yards through the air.
Corbyn Godfrey led the charge, shredding the defense for 72 rushing yards and three rushing TDs while adding a receiving touchdown to his afternoon. Jaxson Womack brought his A game, punishing defenders for 77 yards on the ground and a score. Under center, Brian Lee Anderson was absolute money, going 8-for-12 for 140 yards and dropping five passing dimes for TDs. Gavyn Cervantes earned the title of “Mr. Efficient,” hauling in three catches for 81 yards. All three going straight to the end zone! Kenneth McClure made his sole reception count with a 23-yard TD strike, while Denton Nyberg (42 rushing yards, one TD) and JD Duncan (six rushing yards, one TD) kept the ground game rolling. To put the exclamation point on the scoring, Xandar Dannar took a kickoff 42 yards all the way to the house!
Defensively, the Rebels set the tone early with a relentless team effort that completely locked down the Oilers in the first half. McClure was a total menace for the Oilers, piling up four solo tackles for loss and recovering a fumble. Godfrey anchored the unit with a team-high 11 tackles, Jaxson Womack racked up nine tackles and a sack, and Cervantes locked down the secondary with seven tackles and a pass breakup.
The Rebels now head into a well-deserved bye week, which comes at the perfect time to heal up and gear up for our massive regular season finale on the Oct 23 against Ten Sleep. The stakes couldn’t be higher for this Senior Night matchup, as a victory will decide whether we host a first-round playoff game right here at home or have to head on the road. We look forward to honoring our seniors and celebrating everything they’ve given to this program over the last four years.
As a coaching staff, watching this group grow week after week has been incredibly rewarding. While we still have details to clean up before the postseason push, this team has all the grit and talent to do something truly special in the playoffs. It all starts with winning every single rep in practice and taking care of business on every play. Go Rebels!
