Richard Oliver Gormley

June 23, 1931 – Jan. 11, 2015Funeral services for Richard Oliver Gormley of Burlington will be held Saturday, Jan. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Burlington LDS Church. Richard, 83, died Jan. 11 in the West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody of complications from a stroke.He was born June 23, 1931, in Burlington, the son of Wesley Palmer and Theresa Martilla Preator Gormley. Richard graduated from Burlington High School in 1949 and attended Colorado State University for a short time.He married Faith Aagard on Nov. 16, 1950, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. The couple had three children, Renae B., Randall Aagard and Richard Orlando, who died shortly after birth.Richard farmed, raised livestock and trucked in Burlington. In 1961 the family moved to Oslo, Minn., where he pioneered the dry edible bean industry in the Red River Valley with his brother, Wesley.In 1964, the family moved to Grand Forks, N.D. The business was sold in 1974 and the Gormleys moved to Denver, where he stayed in business with his son. Through all of the moving and traveling, Richard maintained the family homestead in Burlington.He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership positions and on many boards, including Boy Scouts.His wife Faith died Jan. 7, 1989. Richard married Carolyn Haupt of Westminster, Colo., on March 23, 1991.His first wife, parents, son Richard and six siblings preceded him in death.He is survived by his wife Carolyn; son-in-law and daughter, Craig and Renae Hawker; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Laurie Gormley; stepchildren, Mark Haupt, Michael Haupt, and Jennifer Blechar; brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Elaine Gormley; 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.Interment will be in the Burlington Cemetery.
