Richard Scott Hansen

Feb. 12, 1986 – Dec. 30, 2024

Richard Scott Hansen, 38, passed away in Basin in his family home on December 30, 2024.

He was born on February 12, 1986, in Lovell. Richard was born with a defect that was surgically repaired but would cause him issues for the rest of his life. Richard spent a lot of his childhood years in Deaver attending Rocky Mountain schools.

Richard’s parents divorced when he was a teen. His mother eventually remarried and moved the family to Basin, where he graduated from Riverside High School in 2005. Richard had a passion for cars. Growing up he was constantly putting together model hot rods and painting them with the utmost attention to detail. This passion led him to enroll in WyoTech, where he graduated with a degree in Autobody/collision and Repair in 2007.

Richard was working in the automotive industry when his health took a turn for the worst. After passing out at his job one day, he was hauled to the hospital where it was found that he was in the end stages of renal failure. Richard’s life from then on was spent in and out of hospitals and revolved around dialysis appointments.

Richard moved to Colorado in hopes of getting on the kidney transplant list to no avail. He was soon forced to move back to Casper, where he was cared for by family until moving in with his mother and stepfather in mid 2024 when his illness had progressed to a point of no return. Richard will be remembered for his fervor for family, his love for animals (especially his beloved dog Dozer) and the humor he would bring to any conversation.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Everett Baldwin, James (Jim) Gordon and Warren James; grandmothers Laverne James and Beverly Hansen; brother Heath Brimhall; nephew Kenhian Hansen; niece Saniya Hansen; and uncle Mike Barnes.

He is survived by his mother, Kathi (Ric) George, of Basin; father Richard Hansen of Basin; brothers Shawn Hansen of Greybull, Shelby Hansen of Englewood, Colorado, Christopher (Paige) Hansen of Lovell, Branndon (Morgan) Hansen of Greybull, Ryan (Shawnay) George of Billings and Ronny George of Missouri; sisters Nikole (Justin) Pederson of Basin, Mari Oliver (Juan Burton) of Casper and Rici (Briar) Hess of Moberly, Missouri; nephews Cameron Hansen, Myles Hansen and Jacob Burton; and nieces Aubree Hansen, Mckenzie Hansen and Chandler Burton, as well as many other uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

A visitation took place Monday Jan. 6, at 1 p.m. at the Lovell LDS Stake Center. Funeral services followed at 2 p.m., with a procession and burial following at the Lovell Cemetery.
