Riverside Rebels came out strong at Shoshoni meet
For the Riverside Rebels, alot of positives came out of the Shoshoni Invite on Tuesday, April 15.
Kennedy Bassett started off the running events with a bang. She broke a 24-year-old school record in the 100-meter hurdles (previously held by Kelly Skarda) with a time of 16.31 seconds. Kennedy also earned second place in the 300-meter hurdles and finished sixth in the 100.
Vinaya Vanderploeg brought home a gold of her own, winning the 200 in a time of 27.48. She also added a fourth in the 100.
Riverside’s throwers had a great day as well. Varissa Olsen continued a successful season in the throws, finishing second in the discus (98-5) and third in the shot put (30-6). Meanwhile Ada Pratt keeps setting personal bests in the shot put, finishing second with a throw of 31-7.
Wyatt Daly-Patterson’s fourth-place time in the 100 was a PR. He ran 11.98. Paul Stone placed third in the triple jump and ran a PR of 57.3 in the 400, putting him in contention for a spot at state in another event. Rocko Huggins got sixth in the 800, finishing in 2:26. Daly-Patterson’s third-place high jump of 5-8 tied a personal best. Reece Whisenant produced three jumps of more than 19 feet, including a 19-2 jump that earned him second place.
The Riverside boys also pre-qualified another version of their 400-meter relay, giving them multiple options to run that event at regionals and state. The Rebels will compete at the Rocky Mountain Invite in Cowley Saturday April 26.
Riverside’s middle school track teams will compete in Cowley Friday, April 25, and then in Greybull Saturday, April 26.
