Riverside students compete at Showalter Music Festival

Riverside Middle/High School music director Alyssa Pena took 15 students to the Showalter Music Festival held Feb. 3 at Northwest College.
In addition to students, the group included school nurse and accompanist Katie Winters as well as school district paraprofessional Roxanne Peters. She went as a photographer and proud grandma of one of the students.
The students spent the last month preparing solos and duets to perform in front of a judge at the festival. The students get to experience playing for an audience, as well as receiving feedback on how to improve from a professional musician.
There are three ratings students can receive including a superior rating, a good rating, and a fair rating. Riverside students came home with 11 superior ratings and four good ratings.
